Anchor Inn, Whittonstall on 4th November 2000

Hounds, mounted field and supporters all gathered for the opening meet at the Anchor Inn on 4th November, and it was an inspiration and something to admire to see a well turned out field of around 50.

First draw took place at Watch Hill plantation. Then Simon and hounds took a right-hand turn into Applerley Dene Whinnies. - No foxes to be found, he then pressed on with hounds to West Riding, with Field Master Ken Sisterson gathering the field to follow. There hounds gave cry - Simon then blew them on towards Fish Pond.

Hounds picked up scent and once more were on to a fox. Although still unsuccessful, and many of the field having departed, Simon brought hounds down into Ryehill Wood, (but I was heading for home, after a vigorous walk through the woods,) - I understood later towards the end of the day they accounted for 1½ brace. Even though I missed the "action", it was nevertheless a rewarding day as usual. "GREY FOX's VIXEN"
